| Dear Editor, I’m sure Rebecca Jones was relieved to hear that “cougars don’t come to town” and that all the cougars (all 10 of them) have been collared. I know I was. It must also have been reassuring to know that one could easily mistake a cougar (cat) for a coyote (dog). If it was someone’s pet, the bylaw officer should make sure to locate the owners and inform them that they cannot keep a cougar as a pet or that it must be collared or leashed. Any self-respecting cougar would not come to town, unless they are like the deer and the coyote I have seen in my backyard who apparently cannot read signs and have no respect for property lines or town limits. Ms. Jones and the residents of Maple Creek can rest easy knowing that the conservation officers do not believe she saw what she saw. I’m also sure Ms. Jones and others will think twice before reporting a sighting again. Mightily relieved, Carol Anne Stewart Maple Creek |
