Dear Editor,
Once again Mr. Wells in his letter to the editor continues to make bizarre assertions about Bill C-27, an Act that will clarify the CWB voting procedures. He knows the election voting changes are supported by the Board and are simply an attempt to ensure that those who are voting are actually participating in the CWB grain marketing system.
He also knows that producers of rye, flax, oats rapeseed, canola, wheat and barley have always been eligible to vote in CWB elections. Its purpose is to ensure that those who vote are currently involved in the business of farming these seven grains.
The amendments would require producers to have produced a modest 40 tonnes of grain in the year of an election, or in either of the previous two crop years. The CWB, farmers and industry support this simple and practical change. Mr. Wells should too.
As Mr. Wells knows, organic grain producers have the freedom to market their own grain. Why won’t he support conventional Western Canadian producers who want to have the same freedom and opportunity that he himself has?
Sincerely,
David Anderson, MP
Cypress Hills-Grasslands and
Parliamentary Secretary for the Canadian Wheat
Board
