This is a copy of a letter sent to Chief Alice Pahtayken. Dear Editor, Nekaneet First Nation membership are wanting to know how much the referendum process of Feb. 4, 2010 cost. The questions we are asking are: 1. The breakdown cost of packages sent to individual band members, these costs should be itemized in postage, administration, etc. 2. The costs of referendum officer Gordon Alger for: - travel to information meetings of Jan. 18, urban meeting in Regina; travel to Jan. 19 meeting on Nekaneet and the Feb. 4 travel and costs related to referendum. 3. Travel costs for your lawyer John Lojek for: Jan. 18 urban meeting in Regina; Jan. 19 Nekaneet meeting and all of his hourly fees advising the acclaimed council members. 4. Governance Committee costs and Band Council costs for the whole referendum process. As you know it states in your Governance Act, all business you do is in the best interests of all Nekaneet members and you are obligated to post these costs up in the band office and share them with band members in a band meeting when asked to do so. Thank you for your anticipated co-operation. Linda Oakes |
