By Allison Werbowetsky Maple Creek will soon have a second fully-licensed physician. Dr. Ivo Radevski, Cypress Health Region’s part-time senior medical officer, has officially accepted a position at the Maple Creek Primary Health Clinic. Radevski will be available at the clinic three days a week, and will join Dr. Govender with the mentoring of Dr. Mudingayi as well. Dr. Radevski will be leaving his position at the Southwest Medi-Centre in Swift Current and pending the recruitment of his replacement, is expected to start in Maple Creek in the next month. He has become familiar with the area after providing locum services here on several occasions over the last few months, and looks forward to spending more time in the community. “I have already had the opportunity to create relationships with some of the staff in Maple Creek and, coupled with the potential of a new capital project, this is truly an opportunity that I am optimistic about,” Dr. Radevski said in a news release from the health region last week. Cypress health region CEO Jim Hornell is confident Dr. Radevski will make a great addition to the Maple Creek physician staff. “Dr. Radevski is a tremendous asset to the region and his recruitment to the community of Maple Creek will add experience and stability plus provide additional mentorship support,” Hornell said. “The addition of a physician to Maple Creek will relieve some of the strains recently placed on Dr. Govender, Dr. Mudingayi, Dr. Crawshaw and nurse practitioners Dawn Kalinowski and Helene Leis,” he added. Continued on page 2 Continued from page 1 The health region along with the Maple Creek Recruitment Committee is continuing its efforts to secure a fourth physician to guarantee the community four physicians and two nurse practitioners. “Our medical affairs co-ordinator and the Maple Creek Physician Recruitment Committee have been working extremely hard to provide an expedited solution to the physician shortage in Maple Creek. The community will experience a great reward from these efforts in Dr. Radevski,” Hornell commented. Further physician recruitment efforts in all rural communities undergoing physician shortages are still underway as well. The health region will provide updates as progression is made. |
