The Maple Creek Senior Hawks overcame a scoreless home-opener with two hat-tricks Friday night that resulted in a 6-3 win over the Consul Rockets.

Hawks forward Blaine Schwab opened the scoring at the Maple Creek Community Arena late in the first period, but Consul’s Geoff Fisher scored with under three minutes left to even the score up going into the second.
Schwab would score his second of the night nearly five minutes into the second period after intercepting a clearing attempt from Consul goalie Coy Tillier. Schwab scored his hat trick goal four minutes later.
Fisher scored Consul’s second goal of the evening midway through a Hawks interference penalty during the second half of the second period, but Kyle Mason answered with another Hawks goal less than a minute later.
Mason scored again before Consul would score their last of the night with only .9 seconds left in the second period.
Mason’s hat-trick goal came 12 minutes into the third period.
“It’s a big win. It’s good to get the first one on the board and it’s good to score too. It’s been a while,” Mason said immediately after the home-team win.
The Hawks now have a 1-1 record after two games at home.
“It feels good. It’s good to get that out of the way and the chemistry is coming,” Mason said.
The Hawks’ third game of the season will also be played at home. They face Shaunavon  on Friday.
