No serious injuries in car-semi collision

Posted on November 27, 2013 by Maple Creek

Three people were spared serious injury after a car collided with a transport truck on the Trans-Canada Highway near Maple Creek on Monday night.

The accident occurred when a deer jumped into the path of a westbound semi and Chevrolet Impala about half a kilometre west of the junction of Highway 21 at 8 p.m. Both drivers swerved to miss the animal, causing the driver of the car to lose control and collide with the trailer. The impact pushed the trailer into the north ditch, and as the semi driver tried to regain control and bring it back onto the road the trailer flipped on its side, blocking both westbound lanes. The car entered the centre median.

Maple Creek firefighters, EMS and RCMP responded to the accident, and the 47-year-old man and 38-year-old woman from Winnipeg in the car, and 64-year-old man from Edmonton who was driving the semi were taken to Maple Creek Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Westbound traffic was directed around the semi through the service road leading off Gateway Esso for two-and-a-half hours until the semi was righted and pulled off the road.
