Brewery trophy on display

Ryan Moncrieff, pictured with the trophy and the award-winning Rauchbier.When you are next in Rafter R Brewing Co. at #13 Pacific Avenue, your curiosity may be piqued by an eye-catching trophy on display.
The brewery won it at the September 16-19 Canadian Brewing awards in Québec City, Québec. The judges were so impressed by Rafter’s tasty Rauchbier that they awarded the brewery a silver prize in the smoked beer category.
Unfortunately, Ryan Moncrieff, pictured above with the award and a glass of Rauchbier, and his wife, Teresa, were unable to travel to Québec to accept their prize.
Several weeks passed before it finally arrived.
The national awards are open to Canadian majority-owned breweries of all sizes and are sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program.
Blind tasting determined the best beers in 56 style categories.
Rafter R submitted six bottles of each beer in six categories: Blonde Ale; English Dark; Berliner Weisse; Red Ale; Oatmeal Stout; and Rauchbier.
