By Marcia Love Duncan Whittick, manager of community development in Maple Creek, led the meeting, which was opened by Laurie Leigh, of Enterprise Sask. Leigh encouraged the group to share their vision of what could be done to build partnerships and better the community for current and future residents. The development of a youth centre was seen as a positive contribution to younger members of the community. “The most important thing is the youth, because there’s not a lot of things directed at people between 12 and 24 around here,” said Morgan Halyk, of Cypress Health Region. “It’s getting the youth something to do that’s safe.” Affordable living for residents, as well as enhanced transportation in and to Maple Creek was also well-examined. Whittick said he was pleased by the number of people who have shown an interest in development in the community. “The amount of people who came out to support this project was a big improvement,” he said. The next community planning meeting is scheduled for Feb. 8 at the Jasper Centre.
Duncan Whittick asks for input at a community planning meeting Jan. 18 attended by over 40 people. |
