Sometime during the night of Feb. 20, thieves gained entry to Maple Creek's Royal Canadian Legion.
"We're still doing the investigation," said RCMP Cpl. Steve Boudram. "We're just hoping the public will come forward and provide us any information in regards to that."
The incident occurred sometime during the night after bingo that evening. The thieves got away with money and raffle tickets.
The crime is particularly heinous since the building is a home for several community groups and functions such as fundraisers and craft sales, but it also serves as the home base for Maple Creek and area veterans and officers.
Legion members were alerted to the crime the next morning at approximately 8:45 a.m.
"The only way we figure is they must have been in there already and once things quieted down (from bingo) that's when they hit the office," said Legion President Norman Kimber. "They kicked the office door in and then pried the safe open."
The RCMP are also searching for witnesses after a hot tub in the 400 block of Herbert Street was damaged. The incident occurred sometime between Feb. 8 and Feb. 21. The hot tub was damaged after an electrical breaker to the tub was turned off.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact the Maple Creek RCMP detachment at 306-662-5550.
