The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce celebrated 50 years of being part of the Maple Creek community on Feb. 24.

As part of it’s anniversary celebration, CIBC donated $1,000 to the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Care Foundation.
Branch manager Susan Moorhead presented the cheque on behalf of CIBC to members of the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation.
The Imperial Bank of Canada Maple Creek branch was first opened on Feb. 22, 1960, on Jasper Street after the branch in Piapot was closed.
In June 1961, the branch was re-branded to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce after the Imperial Bank of Canada merged with the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
Tom Weber, CIBC vice-president of retail markets for the Prairies, said he is proud to be marking this special occasion for the bank.
“For 50 years we have been helping our clients in Maple Creek and the surrounding area meet their financial needs and achieve what matters to them,” he said.
Clay Thompson, executive director of the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation, said he is pleased with the donation, which will contribute to the healthcare of people living in the Southwest.
“(The) contribution could not have come at a more opportune time, as the announcement of the integrated healthcare facility in Maple Creek was just confirmed,” he said.
Moorhead said the donation will go towards purchasing new equipment for Maple Creek Hospital.
“Because the new hospital has just been passed, it’s a good time to be putting money towards it and buying new equipment for it,” she said.
