Consul is ready for the biggest little rodeo in the west as the third annual Reno Rodeo kicks off July 31.
The rodeo – winner of the Canadian Cowboy Association’s Rodeo of the Year last year – will see the addition of its new rookie rough stock event this year.
“We’ve got a good number of entries for our rookie rough stock,” said Jill Richards, an organizer of the rodeo. “We have about 12 bareback and saddle bronc entries and we’ll still take entries.”
A new event for children is the calf scramble, which will take place during the kids’ rodeo on July 31 at 2 p.m.
Additional grand stands have also been put in.
“We’ve got a new local concession stand and we’ve built a cover for the kids’ sand pile to give them some shade,” Richards said. “The parents love (the sand pile), because the kids go to it like bees to honey.”
The rodeo action begins on July 31 at 5 p.m. and continues on Aug. 1 at 2 p.m.
A pancake breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 1. The Sunday slack event is cancelled.
“There’s lots of local entries and everybody’s really excited,” Richards said.
Commemorative Reno Rodeo posters are available at the Cypress Credit Union and will also be sold on Aug. 1 at the rodeo.
Free camping is offered all weekend. Beer gardens and live music will also be on site.
“It’s a good weekend to come out and spend time with the family and see some really good rodeo action,” said Richards.
