OLSEN - Hazel
Hazel was born on Feb. 17, 1912 at Maple Creek, Sask. and passed away Feb. 3, 2010 at Maple Creek, Sask.
Hazel attended school at the Prairie Star and Piapot Schools and lived her life in the Piapot area. She married Earl J. Olsen on July 29, 1937. Together they settled three miles from Piapot in 1940, so that Earl’s son Wayne could go to school.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Earl on Nov. 12, 1979; parents Eugene Scherck (1952), Mabel Scherck (1983); brothers Fred (1977), Paul (1964), Leo (1983); a sister Arkley Gold (1997); daughter Myrna Jean Doe (1987) and step-son Wayne.
She is survived by sisters Elaine Rowett and Imogene Krego and Anita Nicholls; sons Victor (Mary) Olsen, Garry (Ann) Olsen; daughter-in-law Joyce Olsen; Myrna’s children Kirsten, Nicole and Rachel; Victor’s children Dwayne, Deanna and Darwin; Wayne’s children Brian and Vivian as well as several other family members.
The funeral service was held at the Maple Creek United Church in Maple Creek, Sask. on Mon., Feb. 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Eva Stanley officiating. Pianist was David Hooper. Pallbearers were Doug Smith, Peter Hecker, Wayne Newkirk, Darwin Olsen, Don Christie, Gordon Christie. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Hazels’ life. Interment took place at the Maple Creek Cemetery.
