INGRAM – Marion Mae Ingram ~ April 9, 1926 – August 15, 2014

Marion (Mary) Ingram passed away peacefully in Calgary at the Rosedale Hospice with her sons at her side following a brief battle with the recurrence of leukemia that was initially diagnosed in December 2012.

Mary was born in Vegreville, Alberta to Vasile and Alexandra Yurko, on April 9, 1926; she was a preemie weighing 2.5 lbs and spent her first weeks in a shoe box on the oven door of a wood and coal burning stove.  Her early years were in the Hairy Hill area of Alberta, until her family moved to Pierceland, Saskatchewan. She grew up at Pierceland and subsequently moved to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, where she met and married her husband, John A. Ingram.

Together they farmed and operated a small dairy at Maple Creek. Following cessation of dairy operations, Mary worked at various businesses in Maple Creek and subsequently completed training as an interprovincial journeyman chef. She finished her cooking career working primarily with the British Army at the military base at Suffield, Alberta and retired in 1989. She enjoyed a healthy and active retirement initially in Medicine Hat and later in Calgary where she moved in the fall of 2010.  She travelled extensively with her family to Hawaii, Disneyworld, England, Ukraine, Austria, Normandy in France, Cuba, Victoria, the Maritimes, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Mary was predeceased by her husband in 1989, her parents, and all of her eight siblings. She is survived by her sons, Sam (Jill) and Jack (Adele); five grandchildren: Jeremy (Giselle), Ian (Margo), Brett (Andrea), Ashley (Calum) and Jay (Sarah); five great grandchildren: Paola, Isabela, William, Lucy and Amy; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary will be remembered as a very loving and good humoured mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, who in her own quiet and caring approach to life, positively touched the lives of all who knew her.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Kensington Branch No.264 (1910 Kensington Road NW, Calgary, Alberta).

Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service which will be held at the Maple Creek Cemetery on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall at 3:00 p.m.
