BECK – Donald A. Beck (Happy) passed away peacefully at The SW Integrated Health Care Facility on Saturday September 16, 2017, at the age of 90. He was born on May 21, 1927 and raised in Sidewood, Sask. where he lived and worked on the family farm. In 1967 Don moved with his mother and father to a home in Piapot but still continued to work the farm. Don moved to Maple Creek in his later years.
In his younger years Don loved hunting ducks and geese with his trusty retriever Duke. Once he moved to Maple Creek he took up wood turning on his lathe. He produced beautiful woodwork but would not sell any, preferring to give it away to his family and friends. He took great pride in his garden where he even planted grapes. Another one of his passions was finding discarded items at the dump and creating something useful from them.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albin and Margaret; all of his siblings, Clayton, Gordon, Edward, and Margaret (Bowles) and by nephews John Bowles and Larry Bowles. He is survived by nieces, Tanya (Peter) Cooper, Donna (Ken) MacKinnon, Wendy (Simon) LaFrance, Elie Bowles (Peter Boshard), Lorri (Glen) Schiml; grand nieces, Teresa Bayer, Kim (Josh) Dollison , Tanya (Josh) McMann; grand nephew Chris (Leanne) MacKinnon and great grand nieces, Lauren Bayer, Delaney Patterson, Abi and Ella MacKinnon.
The funeral service was held at Binkley’s Funeral Home on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 a.m., officiated by Eleanor Bowie. A lunch followed at the Salvation Army Hall. Interment was at the Piapot Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southwest Integrated Health Care Facility in memory of Don.
