MCDOWELL - Ellis (Jim) McDowell passed away peacefully, at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at the age of 98 years.
Jim was born on July 11, 1912 on the family farm in Skull Creek. He married Mildred Halliday on May 28, 1935. He is survived by his sons, Doug (Betty), Grant (Donna); his daughters, Mavis Hill, Jan Garratt (Gerald), and Tom Keenan (Heather); 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and by a sister, Marjorie Thompson. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Milly; his parents, Ernest and Margaret; his twin sister; four other siblings; and by a son-in-law, Dave Hill.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Gull Lake Alliance Church, Gull Lake, Sask. with Dr. Grant McDowell and Pastor Gord Willison officiating. The pianist for the service was Barb Mirau with special music brought by Emilee Mirau singing, "It Will Be Worth It All". The eulogy was shared by Brad Garratt. Psalm 34 was the special scripture chosen for the service. "What a Friend We Have In Jesus", "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Have Thine Own Way" were sung by the congregation. The ushers in the church were Doug Kerr, Bjarne Stusrud and Vic Sawatsky. The honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, Amanda Hill, Nicola Hill, Maureen Hill, Amber Wandler, Joni Garratt, Holly McDowell and Erin McKenzie.
The Interment Service preceded the funeral service and was held at the Tompkins Cemetery, Tompkins, Sask. at 11:30 a.m. with his grandsons serving as pallbearers, Blair McDowell, Mark McDowell, Brad Garratt, Nathan McDowell, David McDowell and Jonathan Keenan.
In memory of Jim McDowell, donations made to the Gull Lake Special Care Centre Auxiliary, Box 133, Gull Lake, Sask. S0N 1N0 would be appreciated by the family.
