Two local hockey players are getting into the game with midget AAA teams this season.
Blake Fournier is taking to the ice with the Swift Current Legionnaires, while Dalton Kaake is playing for the Moose Jaw Generals. Fournier joined the Swift Current Raiders in 2009 for his second year of bantam play. The 16-year-old right wing is now playing his first year of AAA midget hockey in Swift Current. “The season’s been a little up and down, but for the most part it’s been good,” Fournier said. The Legionnaires are currently sitting in sixth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, with 10 wins and nine losses. Fournier has made three goals and two assists so far this season. The Maple Creek hockey player said the switch from midget AA with the Legionnaires wasn’t too difficult. “It took me a couple of games to get into it, but it wasn’t too bad,” he explained. Dalton Kaake is playing his first year of midget AAA with the Moose Jaw Generals. After playing his first two years of midget hockey with the Swift Current Hurricanes, the 17-year-old forward was invited to attend the Generals’ camp and made the team. “It’s been awesome and I’m loving it,” said Kaake. “The team has been doing really well... and working together well.” The team is currently ranked fifth, with 11 wins, six losses and one tie. Kaake has earned two goals and two assists so far this year. Now in their final year at the midget level, both Fournier and Kaake are looking ahead to their hockey careers. Both would like to move up to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League or join a university team.
