The Maple Creek Peewee Hawks saw close competition against the Strasbourg Maroons during a two-game total-point provincial playoff series, where they were defeated 6-5 overall.
The Hawks played a tough game on Feb. 25, where they lost 3-1 to the Maroons in the first of two games.
Strasbourg scored the first two points of the game during the first period.
Maple Creek’s Kage Hellman scored the Hawks’ lone goal during the second period, assisted by Maverick Jacksteit and Jayden Sunde.
The third period saw another goal for Strasbourg.
During the teams’ second game on Feb. 28, the Hawks came out with a 4-3 win.
Strasbourg scored the first goal of the game during the first period.
Kelsey Barsness scored for the Hawks in the second period, assisted by Ryan Evans and Sunde.
In the third period, Evans scored from Sunde, and Tristen Sulz earned a goal unassisted.
The Hawks saw another goal by Evans from Sunde, followed by two more goals for the Maroons, ending the game in a 4-3 win for Maple Creek. However, it wasn’t enough to win the series and Maple Creek was eliminated from provincial play.
Chris Kohls is the Hawks’ head coach, with Russ Boschee and Quinton Jacksteit as assistant coaches.
The peewee Hawks move on to league playoff semi-finals, with their first game against Gravelbourg on March 4 at Gravelbourg.
