After placing third at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) tournament in Prince Albert on June 29 and 30, Taras Burton is excited to be travelling to provincials this week.
At the MJT, the 16-year-old finished with a score of 78-80 (158) to tie for third place in the boys’ 14- to 16-year-old division.
Burton said he was surprised by how well he did at the MJT tournament at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course, as he encountered many obstacles throughout the course.
“I didn’t think I played as good as I wanted to, but I really liked the course and I finished well,” he said. “There was a lot of trees and it was pretty windy, so it was hard to keep the ball in play.”
As he returns to Prince Albert for provincials from July 5 to 9, Burton said he hopes he can finish just as well.
This is Burton’s fifth time playing at provincials. He has been golfing at the MJT since he was 12 years old.
“Last year I had an injury, so I missed the cut (at provincials) by two strokes,” he explained.
But Burton said he feels more confident in his abilities this year.
“I feel my game is pretty good right now,” he said.
