Artist selected for business awards, nominate a local business

Posted on December 16, 2013 by Maple Creek

An artist has been selected to create the awards for the Maple Creek Business Awards of Excellence.

After reviewing and considering all submissions made, the Main Street Program Committee decided to award the task to Al Hartley.
The committee received 12 submissions from 10 different artists in the community following its call for proposals for the 2013 Business Awards of Excellence trophies. The decision to offer a piece of local art as the award for the winners of each category was made since one of the strategies identified in the Maple Creek Community Cultural Plan includes “increasing the viability of the arts and artists in the community.”
The subject of the local photographer’s piece will be unveiled at the Business Awards of Excellence gala in February, when copies of the work will be presented to the winners of business of the year, tourism excellence, customer service excellence, communities in bloom excellence, heritage conservation excellence and community spirit excellence.
Nominations for the awards are being accepted until Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. Nomination forms can be downloaded from http://www.maplecreek.ca by clicking on “Community Initiatives” and “Business Awards of Excellence.” They are also available at the Visitor Centre. Businesses in both the town and the RM of Maple Creek are eligible for nomination.
This is the second year the Maple Creek Main Street Program has hosted the awards program in collaboration with the Maple Creek Chamber of Commerce. It was created to celebrate the contributions the local business community has made to the quality of life in Maple Creek and area.
