KEARNS – Ida Janet Kearns (nee Whitney) ~ Nov. 11, 1923 – Dec. 9, 2016
Ida Kearns (nee Whitney) passed away peacefully at the Olds hospital on Dec. 9, 2016 at the age of 93 with family at her side.
Ida was raised on the Whitney ranch south of Maple Creek, Sask., bordering the Cypress Hills Park, along with three brothers and one sister by her parents Asa and Maud. The ranch remains in the Whitney family to this day.
After completing school she obtained a business degree from the Medicine Hat College. On Aug. 26, 1945 she married Robert Cleveland Kearns (Cleve) and they purchased a farm near Sundre, Alta., where they raised four children. In 1959, the family moved to Olds and then to Bowden in 1964 where Cleve became the postmaster. Between 1960 and 1988 she was employed by the Bank of Montreal, Olds Auction Mart and Canada Health of Animals.
After retiring, Ida enjoyed time living with her daughter Donna and spent many enjoyable winters with her son Ken in Seattle, later moving to Red Deer where she lived until 2014. Ida will always be kindly remembered and loved for her compassion and devotion to family and friends.
Ida was predeceased by her husband Cleve in 1985; three brothers – Cliff, Ray and Jack Whitney and one sister Aylean Harris.
Ida is survived by 4 children Bob (Sandee) Kearns, Donna (Gordon) Anderson, Earl (Debbie) Kearns and Ken Kearns; nine grandchildren Quinn Kearns, Kerri Maetche, Lisa Hanna, Kent Kearns, Fraser Anderson, Mark Anderson, Stacy Rauch, Darren Kearns, and Rachel Kearns; 19 great-grandchildren McKensy Ryan, Kai Pettifer, Jed, Michela and Sera Kearns; Tyler, Jesse and Abby Maetche; Tristan, Evan and Emily Hanna; Kelvin, Karson and Keaton Kearns; Ashlyn Anderson; Issac Steinke; Ryder, Jorden and Taylor Rauch.
As per Ida’s wishes a family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate her life. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Turner, Dr. Duong and the Olds Hospital staff for their professional and compassionate care during this stressful time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of choice.  Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610  wwwheartlandfuneralservices.com
