BLACKMON – Mary Blackmon née Chapman

BLACKMON – Mary Blackmon née Chapman age 88 years of Shaunavon, Sask. passed away peacefully at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre on Sun., Aug. 14, 2016 at 2 a.m.
She was born on Section 18, Township 3, Range 28, West of the Third Meridian at Govenlock, Sask. on Sept. 1, 1927. She spent some time in her young life at the tuberculosis clinic at Fort San in Fort Qu’Appelle. In her teen years, she moved to Eastend with her mother. Later, while working at a restaurant in Shaunavon, she met Bill Blackmon and they were married in 1954. Bill passed away 13 years later in July, 1967. Mary continued to live in the boarding house in Shaunavon. Mary was active in her church and in the community. She was known to many for her philanthropy, kindness and good spirit. Mary was also a passionate contributor to Covenant House and a 25 year plus member of the Hospital Auxiliary, a helper for Meals on Wheels and a courtesy car driver. It was during these years that she became known as “Aunt Mary” to all. Mary loved the Prairies and loved life in Shaunavon.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Bill, her sister Irene, and her father and mother Ernest and Minnie Chapman.
She is survived by her niece-in-law Dolores Blackmon, wife of the late Michael Blackmon.
Funeral Services were held on Wed., Aug. 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon with Minister Shelby Kinrade officiating. The eulogy was presented by Robert Holmes and a tribute was given by Lynn Holmes. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon.

Pallbearers were Robert Holmes, Victor Holmes, William Holmes, Don Holmberg, Kelly Ratzlaff and Robert Blackmon.
